Ethereum and Solana both support DeFi trading, but the experience differs in three concrete ways.
Fees: Ethereum mainnet gas spikes during congestion โ a swap that costs cents on Solana can cost dollars on Ethereum at peak. Layer-2 networks (Arbitrum, Base) close much of that gap, but they fragment liquidity across separate chains.
Speed and finality: Solana targets ~400ms slots; Ethereum blocks run ~12 seconds. For manual trading this rarely matters. For bots running arbitrage or grid strategies, faster confirmation reduces the window where a fill can be front-run or slipped.
Liquidity shape: Ethereum's DeFi liquidity is deeper but spread across L2s and dozens of DEXs. Solana's is concentrated โ Jupiter aggregates most of it โ which simplifies routing but concentrates dependency on fewer venues.
Practical takeaway: neither chain is 'better' โ match the chain to the strategy. High-frequency, small-size bot trades favor low fees; large positions favor the deepest books.
